Upcoming Concerts

To continue to make full use of the newly refurbished organ in All Saints' Church Botley, our attention turns across the channel for our St Cecilia's Day Concert in November.  The programme includes three powerhouses of French music for organ and voice: Vierne, Gounod and Faure.

Vierne was organist for nearly 40 years at the world famous Notre- Dame Cathedral and much of what he wrote was organ music and works for choir and organ and we are delighted to be performing his Messe Solennelle for choir and two organs (we will have an additional chamber organ). 

​

Gounod was taught by a contemporary of Beethoven and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris where he won France's most prestigious music prize for composition, the Prix de Rome. He composed his Messe Solennelle in honour of St Cecilia, the patron saint of music who is celebrated each year at the end of  November.

​

Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine is probably the second most sung of Faure's choral works after his Requiem.

​
